Council Member Calsolaro introduced the following resolution:
RESOLUTION NUMBER RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY OF ALBANY MUNICIPAL CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION ADOPT A RULES AMENDMENT PROVIDING FOR A RESIDENCY PREFERENCE
WHEREAS, the City of Albany Municipal Civil Service Commission may adopt their own rules and qualifications in addition to the existing state civil service laws, and
WHEREAS, the Commission is responsible for the local administration of the Civil Service Law and is responsible for conducting examinations and preparing eligibility lists, and
WHEREAS, state law allows municipal civil service commissions to provide a residency preference, and
WHEREAS, a residency preference for open competitive lists can help the City of Albany by encouraging residency within the City and providing better service to the City be having employees who are more intimately knowledgeable about the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Albany does hereby recommend that the City of Albany Municipal Civil Service Commission consider adopting a certification of residents from the City of Albany for open competitive exams.
